Sherilyn Wiggins & Nancy Moss Awarded a continuation of a grant from The Living Well Foundation in the amount of $44,052.00 to provide infant nutrition education to expectant moms in Ouachita Parish. One of the goals of this grant is to gather data and volunteers for additional research to determine the effects of infant nutritional education on childhood obesity.
Awarded a Service Learning Grant for $5,000 in Summer of 2009, which was used to fund a new nursing elective at ULM about reducing infant mortality. They also received an additional $5,000 in the Fall of 2009 to fund a number of projects, which include health fairs and health promotion activities.

Awarded a grant from The Lyme Disease Association, Inc. to educate the public about Lyme Disease prevention, early detection and treatment of Lyme Disease, as well as chronic Lyme Disease. A poster, diorama, and brochures/pamphlets will be used at public/outdoor events.

Debbie Brossett Garner, DNP, MSN, RN, ACNS, BC
Debbie recently received a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Forensic Nursing from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Her major project entitled "Measurement of Caregiver Strain in Caregivers Utilizing an Adult Day Care Program" statistically analyzed the types of strain perceived by caregivers of elderly individuals. The study population included caregivers of elderly individuals that used an adult day care program as a form of respite care. The tool for the project was the "Modified Caregiver Strain Index"; an assessment tool developed as a component of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing "Try This" series.

Presented "Using the Nursing Skills Lab as a Clinical Site" at The Hats Off to Nursing in Little Rock, Arkansas hosted by the University of Arkansas Medical Science School of Nursing in June of 2008 and using this same topic participated in a Poster Presentation at the Mosby Faculty Development Institute in Orlando, Florida in January of 2009. Presented "Education Through Simulation: Student Perception" at Mosby's Faculty Education Conference in Orlando, Florida in January, 2009. Their presentation showed results from surveying ULM's Semester 2 students to measure their perception of using simulation in education.
